Switcher3Way for macOS and Windows, published by IronMade.
Switcher3Way collects nothing.
It reads your keystrokes because that is how it corrects a word typed in the wrong keyboard layout. Everything it reads stays on your computer. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and nothing is ever sent to IronMade.
What the app can see
To do its job, Switcher3Way needs macOS permissions for Accessibility and Input Monitoring. With those it can observe the keys you press, identify which application is in front, and replace the last word you typed. That is a lot of access, and it is worth being precise about what happens with it.
- Keystrokes are held briefly in memory to work out whether the current word was typed in the wrong layout. They are discarded as you go.
- Words are checked against the spelling dictionaries already installed on your computer. No lookup leaves the machine.
- Nothing you type is written to disk, transmitted, or retained after the word is finished.
Password fields
Switcher3Way tries to detect when you are typing into a password field and stops working entirely while you are — no correction, no layout change, no on-screen feedback, and the phrase memory is cleared so that nothing typed there can influence a later correction.
Detection is best effort. It uses the system's secure-input signal, the accessibility description of the focused field, and a list of applications where the app never acts at all, such as password managers. The Mac App Store version is sandboxed and cannot inspect the focused field, so there it relies on the secure-input signal and the application list alone.
What leaves your computer
- Mac App Store version: only communication with Apple to handle purchases and to check whether you have an active licence. IronMade receives no payment details and no personal information from Apple beyond whether a purchase exists.
- Direct-download version: it checks for new releases, which means a request to GitHub for the current version number. You can switch that off in Settings. It sends no information about you or your usage.
- Windows version: as above, with updates delivered by the Microsoft Store or, for the direct installer, the same version check.
The diagnostic log
Switcher3Way can write a log to help diagnose problems. It is off by default, it stays on your computer, and it is never sent anywhere automatically.
The log records what the app decided and why — that a word of a certain length was seen, which layout was chosen, which check refused. It does not record the characters you typed. Where a word is involved, only its length is written.
If you choose to send a log while reporting a problem, you are sending it deliberately, and you can read it first.
Settings and licence
Your preferences and exception lists are stored locally by the operating system. On the Mac App Store version, your purchase is recorded by Apple and the app asks Apple whether it is valid; the trial period is tracked locally on your computer.
Children
Switcher3Way is a keyboard utility with no social features and no content. It is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be published here with a new date. Material changes to what the app does with your data would come with a release note saying so.
